Obihiro Heigen Festival

Event
This festival began as the Heiwa (Peace) Festival and has been held for over 70 years since 1947 and is one of Tokachi's largest festivals and an integral part of summer in Obihiro. Portable shrines for bountiful harvests and flourishing seeds are danced down Heigen-dori Street for the Yumefuruya parade and visitors throw wheat at the palanquins in the Koganeho Nageire. Around 200 musicians from the whole prefecture play in the Heigen Drum Festival; people in various costumes, starting with yukata (summer kimono), then parade down the street doing hand dances in the Obihiro Bon dance. These and many more events, draw lively crowds every single year.
