Ishidori Festival
Starting in the Edo period this Kasuga Shrine Shinto ritual is known as Japan's loudest festival. About 30 floats bang their taiko drums and ring their hand bells at the same time in a resounding thunderous roar in what is known as the Tatakidashi, creating an unforgettable impact. The Ishidori Festival is well known for viewing a wide variety of unique floats in one location. Seeing the 40 floats lined up after the Tatakidashi is particularly magnificent. Visitors will want to take a good look at the splendid ornate designs in the lacquer of the floats.
