Kumagaya Uchiwa Matsuri
They say the Kumagaya Uchiwa Matsuri began in the mid-Edo period, under the influence of Kyoto's Yasaka-jinja Shrine Gion festival. The biggest sight is the Hikiawase Tatakiai, where the 12 floats and shrines gather and have a musical battle to the sounds of gongs and drums. Known as the Kanto area's largest Gion festival, it's an extravagant and impressive display.
