Hanamaki Festival
This Iwate tradition boasts over 400 years of history. Elegant and gorgeous traditional festival floats decorated with dolls, cherry blossoms, and wisteria flowers are drawn along to the sounds of traditional Hanamaki hayashi music. Filled with things to see, a variety of parades are held featuring the dear dance, a folk performance art; and the kagura gongen-mai, a dance performed to traditional court music in which the dancers embody Shinto gods.
