Esashi-Ubagami Daijingu Festival

Event
Boasting 370 years of history, Ubagami Daijingu shrine is said to be Hokkaido's oldest shrine. In this traditional Shinto ritual conducted by the shrine, three portable shrines and 13 yama floats are paraded around town over a three day period to pray for abundant harvests, abundant ocean catches, and good health. In the climax of the festival on the final day, the 13 yama floats are arrayed next to each other in the Shinchi-cho downtown. In addition to being considered one of the three greatest festivals in Hokkaido, it is also the only festival to be designated a Hokkaido Heritage.
