Based on the Kochi Yosakoi Festival and started in 1992 combining naruko wooden clappers with the Soran-bushi, a Hokkaido folk song, the exciting Yosakoi Soran Festival is the largest festival held in Hokkaido. Large groups of dancers wear colorful headbands and happi festival coats, wielding naruko and putting on energetic dance performances in this stunning parade event. The dances put on at various special stages erected for the festival are also a must-see.
