Nishimonai Bon Odori
A traditional event praying for bountiful harvests and peace for the souls of the ancestors which has been held for some 700 years. In 1981, the festival was designated at a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property and is also considered one of Japan's three greatest Bon Odori festivals together with the Gujo Odori in Gifu Prefecture and the Awa Odori in Tokushima Prefecture. Dancing in line to traditional chants, adult women put on deep-seated bamboo hats and colorful patchwork robes; men and young girls wear face-covering hoods and tie- and indigo-dyed yukata.
