Mino Festival
A traditional and annual festival conducted by Hachiman-jinja Shrine on the second Saturday and Sunday in April. The entire town gets wrapped up in the excitement. The major event of the festival is a parade of portable shrines decorated with giant bouquets of pink Japanese paper flowers. On Sunday, another parade is held featuring six traditional festival floats equipped with mechanical dolls designated Tangible Folk Cultural Properties by Gifu Prefecture; parade participants dress up as Momotaro, Urashima Taro, and other Japanese fairy tale characters. A Niwaka performance, a traditional performing art passed down from the Edo period, is held on Sunday evening.
