Tourounagashi and Big Fireworks Festival

Event
A Bon festival tradition in the city of Tsuruga, this huge event, held at the Place of Scenic Beauty-designated Kehi no Matsubara, is known as one of the largest fireworks displays conducted along the Sea of Japan. Against the soft light cast by some 6,000 red, blue and yellow toro lanterns floating on the surface of the sea, over 10,000 fireworks are launched into the night sky in spectacular fashion. The scene created by the festival stalls, lanterns floating on the sea, and fireworks bursting overhead is magical and well-worth seeing.
