Shirohachimangu Shrine Festival
A traditional event conducted by the Shirohachimangu Shrine boasting over 300 years of history, because it is derived from the Kyoto Jidai Festival and the Gion Festival, it Is nicknamed the Kyoto Festival of Tsugaru. The festival parade temporarily transport's the shrine's god around the town. Designated an Intangible Cultural Property by the town, the parade centers around two portable shrines and also consists of Shinto priests on horseback, sacred horses, and people dressed in traditional costumes and bearing sacred objects and treasures. The portable shrines are followed by festival floats carrying musicians performing traditional music, and children dancing a traditional dance called the chancharenko, enveloping the parade route in a spectacular, showy atmosphere.
