Yasaka Shrine Festival (Reisai)
One of Yasaka Shrine's traditional festivals which has been conducted since the Heian Period, the Yasaka Shrine Festival is a summer tradition in Kyoto. A kagura traditional music and dance performance is held on the night before the festival, while on the day of an Azuma-asobi dance performance and waka poetry recital are held. The majestic traditional court dance and music performed by the Yasaka Gagaku-kai is well-worth seeing.
