Minowa-no-Sato no Kitsune no Yomeiri

Event
A unique festival created by Misato area residents based on a local legend relating to a fox. Up until around 1960, wedding ceremonies and processions in the area were conducted with the participants dressed in traditional garb modeled after foxes, traditionally viewed as near godlike creatures in Japan. The Kitsune no Yomeiri, or Fox Wedding, helps to keep alive the area's conventions, customs, and traditional clothing. The main event is a must-see-a magnificent bridal parade consisting of performers wearing kimono and fox-styled makeup followed by a creative outdoor show. Local specialty products are also sold at the festival grounds, and each year many spectators and tourists come to enjoy the spectacle.
