Aizu Festival
The biggest event of the year held in Aizuwakamatsu, this festival celebrates the city's history as a castle town in the former Aizu Domain. During the lantern procession announcing the start of the festival, some 5,000 children carrying paper lanterns parade through the city's streets. Some of the many other events held during the festival include an extravagant samurai parade featuring special guests, the Aizu Bandai-san Odori folk dance procession, and the Nisshinkan Children's Parade.
