Shinmei Fireworks Extravaganza

The largest fireworks display in Yamanashi prefecture takes place in the town of Ichikawamisato in the Kofu Basin. This display boasts a long history, and is said to date back to the Noroshi of the Takeda clan period (the late sixteenth century). The fireworks are launched 500 meters into the sky, and the biggest attraction of the display is 24 inch shells that explodes into a flower 500 meters across. About 20,000 fireworks, including oversized starmines and special effect fireworks, reflect the theme of the display, World Peace.
