Ube Port Commemorative Fireworks
The largest fireworks display in Yamaguchi Prefecture is held at Ube port, which forms the basis of industrial development in the city of Ube. The chief attraction of this display is the so-called musical fireworks, in which the launching of the fireworks and the background music are synchronized by computer. The local FM station broadcasts the entire event live, giving listeners the feeling of being there as well as allowing them to receive traffic updates and conversations about the fireworks display. About 10,000 fireworks are launched non-stop for about an hour, and the event attracts about 130,000 spectators from inside and outside the prefecture.
