Nakatsu Shimin Fireworks Show
This fireworks show is held on the first day of the Nakatsu Gion-an Oita Prefecture Designated Intangible Folk Cultural Property-a ceremony with a nearly 570-year history. 4,500 rounds of special effect fireworks and other varieties light up the night sky with fresh colors that announce the start of the festival. Once the fireworks finish, six Gion floats are brought into the precincts of Kuranashihama Shrine one at a time as part of the dauntless ceremony, much to the joy of spectators.
