Miharu Takizakura
An ancient double weeping rosebud-type red weeping cherry tree located in Miharu Town, Tamura County, Fukushima Prefecture said to be over 1,000 years old. A designated National Natural Monument, it is also considered one of the three most beautiful cherry trees in the country. Standing 13.5 meters tall halfway up a hill, the tree is 11.3 meters in diameter at its base. In spring, the tree becomes covered in light pink blossoms which droop down practically to the ground, creating a stunning sight. The best time to view the blossoms is around mid-April, and when the tree is in full bloom, it’s lit up at night. The scene created by the tree’s blossoms seemingly floating amidst the darkness is bewitching. Viewing fee 300 yen. Toilets, shops and parking available.
