Negoroji-Temple
A Buddhist temple located in Iwade City, Wakayama Prefecture which is the head temple of Shingi Shingon Buddhism. The temple’s entire grounds are designated a National Historic Site. The temple is also renowned for its cherry blossoms, and has been selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. In spring, some 7,000 cherry trees come into bloom on the temple’s grounds, including Yoshino cherries, hill cherries, weeping cherries, and Negoro-zakura cherries, and large numbers of visitors come to enjoy this fantastic flower viewing location. In most years, the best time to see the blossoms is from late March to early April, and during the blooming period, the temple’s Daito (the Great Tower) and large front gate are lit up at night. The temple grounds are open from 9:10 to 16:30 (until 16:00 November to March; entry 500 yen for adults (persons junior high school age and older). Toilets, shops and parking available.
