Koriyama Castle remains
The site of Koriyama Castle in Yamatokoriyama City, Nara Prefecture is planted with Yoshino cherries, weeping cherries, and a variety of other cherry tree types, and each year in spring great numbers of people come to enjoy cherry blossom viewing. Historic structures such as the reconstructed Otemon gate and corner turret, and the moat surrounded by cherry trees, create a beautiful sight, and the area has been selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. During the Yamatokoriyama Castle Festival, held from late March to early April, a variety of stands and stalls open up in the area, and numerous events are held, including a goldfish competition, citizen’s parade, and period costume procession. The cherry trees are also lit up at night. Toilets and parking available.
