Takato Castle Site Park
A park located in Takato Town, Ina City, Nagano Prefecture built on the site of Takato Castle, a castle which was demolished with the abolition of Japan’s feudal domain system in favor of prefectures. The park is planted with some 1,500 Takato kohigan cherries said to be “the best in the country,” and the park has been selected as one of the tree best places for cherry blossom viewing as well as Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. The best time to view the blossoms is from early to late April. During peak bloom, the park is dyed a light pink by the trees’ tiny, cute blossoms. The Takato Castle Site Park Cherry Blossom Festival is held from April 1 to 30, and during this time visitors can enjoy a variety of events; the park’s cherry trees are also lit up at night. Hours are from 8:00 to 17:00 (6:00 to 22:00 during peak blooming season). Entry is 500 yen for adults, 250 yen for children. Toilets, shops and paid parking available.
