Expo’70 Commemorative Park
This park was established at the site of the Japan World Exposition. There are about 5,500 cherry trees encompassing nine species, including Yoshino, weeping, and hill cherry trees. It’s one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. The spacious park has many popular viewing areas, such as the cherry tree-lined eastern roadway and the Fountain Plaza (Seseragi-hiroba) with its weeping cherry trees. A cherry blossom festival is held to coincide with the Yoshino cherry trees coming into full bloom from late March until early April. At this time, visitors enjoy the illuminated blossoms in the evening. The park is open from 9:30 to 17:00 (last entry 16:30. During the Cherry Blossom Festival, the park stays open until 21:00). Closed Wednesdays (except when a national holiday falls on a Wednesday, in which case the park closes the next normally scheduled weekday. Open throughout April and early May). Entry fees for the Japanese Garden and Natural Culture Garden is 250 yen for adults and 70 yen for elementary and junior high school students. Toilets, shops and paid parking available. The nearest monorail stations are the Bampaku-kinenkoen Station and the Koen-higashiguchi Station.
