Takkokunoiwaya Bishamondo

Event
A Buddhist cave temple dedicated to Vaisravana built by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro in commemoration of the conquest of Emishi. In addition to the crimson-lacquered Bishamon-do hall, the temple is famous for a large figure of Buddha carved into the cave wall. From mid to late April, an ancient weeping cherry tree, believed to be 450 years old, comes into stunning bloom nearby, and great numbers of tourists travel here to view the sight. Visitors are free to view the cherry tree 24 hours a day. Entry onto the temple’s grounds is 300 yen for adults, 100 yen for junior high and high school students. Toilets and free parking available.
