Onishi Park
This park is part of Oshika Village, Shimoina County, Nagano Prefecture—built over the ruins of Mt. Onishi, which collapsed in 1961. It is one of the prefecture’s best flower-viewing spots, with roughly 3,000 cherry trees, from Yoshino cherries and weeping cherries to double-flowered cherries and hill cherries. These trees were planted to give rest to the souls of those who died during the collapse. Their pinkish hue spreads across Mt. Akaishidake and leftover snow in spring. Breath-taking views from mid to late April, with nighttime illumination for the trees. The Oshika Cherry Festival is held on Sunday in mid-April. Toilets, shops and parking available.
