Muramatsu Park
Well-known for its flowers, this park located in Gosen City, Niigata Prefecture also features a promenade, an observatory, and athletic facilities. It is one of the best spots in the prefecture for flower viewing, even selected for Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. Roughly 3,000 cherry trees bloom in spring—mainly Yoshino cherries, but also Yoko cherries, Oshima-zakura cherries, North Japanese hill cherries, and even the rare Hozaki-higan yaezakura cherries. The peak season is mid-April, a great time for picnics. During the Muramatsu Park Cherry Blossom Festival—a month-long event—the trees are lit at night, and various events are held. Toilets, shops and paid parking available.
