Akagi Nanmen “One Thousand Cherry Trees”

Event
Approximately 1,000 Yoshino cherry trees have been planted along the side of a road that runs over the southern slopes of Mt. Akagi in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture. Every year, large numbers of visitors come here to see the cherry blossom. The cherry blossom “tunnel,” which extends for around 1.3 kilometer, is truly magnificent, and has been selected for inclusion in the list of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. The “Akagi Nanmen Thousand Cherry Trees Festival” is held every year in early to mid-April when the cherry blossom is in full bloom. During the Festival, the cherry trees are illuminated in the evenings, and visitors can also enjoy on-stage performances of local traditional arts as well as local specialty foods, etc. The Akagi Nanmen “One Thousand Cherry Trees” are located adjacent to the “Miyagi Thousand Cherry Trees Forest,” where visitors can enjoy the beautiful contrast between cherry trees and moss phlox. Toilets, shops and paid parking available.
