Shimizu Park
Shimizu Park, which is located around 10 minutes’ walk from Shimizu-koen Station, has beautiful seasonal flowers, Japan’s largest obstacle course, a campsite, a barbecue area, etc. It is famous as a great place to see cherry blossom, and has been selected for inclusion in Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots; in spring, around 2,000 cherry trees—including Yoshino and weeping cherry trees—are in flower. The “Gosho no Sakura Cherry Tree,” which is said to be over 100 years old, and the row of cherry trees that line the road from the station to the Park, are both must-sees. The cherry trees are illuminated in the evenings from late March until early April, when the cherry blossom is at its best. Toilets, shops, and paid parking available.
