Mato Park
Mato Park, which was originally established to commemorate the enthronement of the Emperor Taisho, is located in Masuda Town, Yokote City, Akita Prefecture. Cherry trees, azaleas and apple trees have been planted around the Park’s pond, which is set against the backdrop of Mt. Mato. Mato Park has been selected for inclusion in the list of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots, and is considered to be one of the best places in Akita Prefecture to view the cherry blossom. In the spring, the Yoshino and hill cherry trees come into bloom, and a “Mato Park Cherry Blossom Festival” is held from late April through into early May. During the Festival, there are barrel-rowing races and other special events, and the Park receives large numbers of visitors. Toilets, shops, and parking available.
