Shinsakai River Embankments

Event
The Shinsakai River flows through Kakamigahara City, Gifu Prefecture; the Shinsakai River’s embankments have been selected for inclusion in the list of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. A total of around 1,200 Yoshino cherry trees have been planted along both banks of the River; the trees were donated by famous Kabuki actor Ichikawa Hyakujuro, who was born locally, and so the trees have come to be known as “Hyakujuro’s Cherry Trees.” Between late March and early April when the cherry trees are in full bloom, the cherry blossom is illuminated, so that visitors can enjoy cherry blossom viewing in the evenings too. The “Kakamigahara City Sakura Festival” is held in early April each year. Toilets, shops and paid parking available.
