Kouzouji Temple
A Tendai Buddhist temple located in Sasayama City, Hyogo Prefecture. Known as the “Flower Temple,” visitors can enjoy seasonal flower and plant scenery on the temple’s grounds, including cherry blossoms in spring, bigleaf hydrangea in early summer, and fall foliage in autumn. During the cherry blossom season, visitors can enjoy flower viewing amidst the temple’s quiet, stately atmosphere. A variety of cherry tree types grow on the temple’s grounds, including a weeping cherry said to be 80 years old; double-flowered cherries; and Gyoiko-zakura, which bloom with unusual yellow-green flowers. The best time to view the blossoms is generally from early to mid-April. An entry fee is required to enter temple grounds during the cherry blossom and fall foliage seasons—300 yen for adults, free for high school students and younger. Toilets and parking available.
