Kimiidera Temple

Event
A Buddhist temple renowned as a sight for viewing early blooming cherry blossoms in spring, due to the fact that a tree designated as a sample tree by the Wakayama Local Meteorological Observatory stands on the temple grounds, it is also known as “the temple which brings spring to the Kinki region.” In spring, some 500 Yoshino and other cherry tree varieties come into bloom on the temple’s grounds, and the view from the hill overlooking the area is truly spectacular. A Cherry Blossom Festival is held here each year during the peak blooming period from March 20 to April 20, and visitors can also enjoy seeing the cherry trees lit up at night. The temple’s sutra copying space in the main temple building is open from 8:00 to 17:00. Entry is 200 yen for adults and 100 yen for junior high and elementary school students. Paid parking available. The nearest station is JR Kimiidera Station.
