Tanzan-Jinja Shrine
A Shinto shrine located in Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture amidst Mt. Tonomine. The shrine is the location where Emperor Tenji and Fujiwara no Kamatari discussed the Taika Reforms. The shrine’s grounds are dotted with crimson-lacquered Main Hall, including the only remaining original wood Thirteen-Storied Pagoda in the country. The shrine is also a renowned destination for cherry blossom viewing, and during the peak blooming period, usually early to mid-April, numerous cherry trees come into bloom on its grounds, including a famous 600 year old Usuzumi-zakura, Yoshino cherries, hill cherries, and weeping cherries. Shrine grounds are open from 8:30 to 16:30. Entry 600 yen for adults, 300 yen for children. Toilets and free parking available.
