Hama-rikyu Gardens
This municipal park, used as a villa by the Tokugawa shogunate and Imperial household, is recognized nationally as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and a Special Historic Site. It features a saltwater pond and two duck ponds, and is known as a garden used by nobility during Japan’s feudal period. In the spring, about 100 cherry trees with varieties like Yoshino, double-flowered, and North Japanese hill cherries come into bloom throughout this quaint garden centered on its ponds. The harmony of the water surface and the cherry blossoms is gorgeous during full bloom, and the view from the bridge is superb. The season lasts from late March to late April. The garden is open from 9:00 to 17:00 (last entry 16:30). The admission fee is 300 yen for adults and 150 yen for persons 65 and older. Admission is free for all children of elementary school age or younger and junior high school students living or attending school in Tokyo. Toilets and shops available. No parking. The nearest station is at Shidome Station.
