Koishikawa-Korakuen Garden
Completed by Tokugawa Mitsukuni, the second lord of the Mito branch of the Tokugawa family, the Koishikawa-Korakuen Garden has been designated as a Special Historic Site and as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty. This is a “Kaiyu-shiki Tsukiyama Sensui” type garden (with a pond in the middle and artificial hills), with a strongly Chinese feel to it. In the spring, the beautiful flowers of the Yoshino and weeping cherry trees can be seen throughout the Garden. The cherry blossom is at its best between late March and early April each year. The weeping cherry trees with their long branches directly in front of the entrance to the Garden are particularly striking, and visitors can also enjoy the elegant appearance of the cherry trees round the pond. The Koishikawa-Korakuen Garden is open from 9:00 to 17:00 (last admission is at 16:30). Admission costs 300 for adults, and 150 for persons 65 and older; admission is free for elementary school students and for junior high school students who are resident or studying in Tokyo. Toilets are available, but there is no parking. The nearest station is Iidabashi Station.
