Special Place of Scenic Beauty Ritsurin Garden
As a circuit-style Daimyo garden that is symbolic of Japan, this garden located in Ritsurin Town, Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture was designated a Special Place of Scenic Beauty. It is the largest of the Cultural Property gardens, with six ponds and 13 mounds spread around the garden, overlooked by Mt. Shiun. With many varieties of cherry tree like Yoshin cherry, Edo-higanzakura cherry, and hill cherry, the garden offers their alluring spring visage reflected in the lake. The best season for viewing is from late March to early April, which also features nighttime illumination. Toilets, shops and paid parking available. The park is open from 6:30 to 18:00 (April: 5:30–18:30, lights on until 21:00). The admission fee is 410 yen for adults and 170 yen for elementary and junior high school students.
