Kotohiragu Shrine
Locally known as “Konpira-san,” this Shinto shrine is located in Kotohira Town, Nakatado County, Kagawa Prefecture. The shrine is a popular destination for cherry blossom viewing, and some 3,500 cherry trees, mainly Yoshino cherries, bloom on the shrine’s grounds in spring. Particularly noteworthy is the Sakura-no-baba, an avenue extending for approximately 150 meters from the shrine’s large main front gate. When the cherry trees are in full bloom, they create an arch of blossoms overhead, giving visitors the chance to enjoy a truly stunning scene. The shrine’s Cherry Blossom Festival is held each year on April 10, and visitors can watch a procession of shrine maidens and Shinto priests decorated with cherry blossoms. The main shrine is open to visitors from 6:00 to 17:00 (until 18:00 April to September), while the rear shrine is open from 8:30 to 17:00. Toilets and nearby parking available.
