Okayama Korakuen Garden
Okayama Korakuen Garden, a Japanese garden in the Chisenkaiyu-style (path round a pond), is enhanced by Okayama Castle and the nearby mountains, and is one of Japan’s top three gardens. It has been designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty as well as a National Historic Site. Inside the garden as well as in an outer garden, about 280 cherry blossom trees, including Yoshino cherry blossoms, come into bloom in spring. The scenery from late March to early April is exceptional and include a cherry blossom forest, the riding ground with tunnel formed by cherry blossoms which stretches to a bank of about 180 meters as well as the south gate which has a beautiful scene of Okayama Castle and green grass with the cherry blossoms. From early to mid-April, the Yae red weeping cherry trees at the bottom of Eisho Bridge come into full bloom. Shops, toilets and paid parking available. During cherry blossom season, the garden opens from 7:30 to 18:00 (the entrance gate closes at 17:45). The general admission fee is 400 yen for ages 15 to 64 years old. High school students and younger are free of charge until March 31, 2018.
