Kintaikyo-Bridge

A bridge located in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture considered one of the three most stunning in Japan. The bridge consists of five wooden arches which span the Nishiki River. Together with the adjoining Kikko Park, built on the former site of residence belonging to the Kikkawa clan, the bridge and surrounding area is renowned as one of the top cherry blossom viewing destinations in the prefecture. From late March to early April, some 3,000 cherry trees, primarily Yoshino cherries, bloom all at once in the area, and the view of the bridge from beneath a nearby grove of cherries creating a veritable tunnel is truly amazing. During the flowering period, the cherry trees are lit up at night using paper lanterns, giving visitors the chance to enjoy a magical sight. The bridge and surrounding area is open 24 hours a day (lights are turned off after 22:00). A ticket to make a roundtrip crossing of the bridge costs 300 yen for junior high school students and older and 150 yen for elementary school students. Toilets and parking available.
