Morioka Castle Site Park
Morioka Castle Site Park (Iwate Park), located in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, is the site of the former Morioka Castle, which was founded by the first lord of the Morioka domain, a member of the Nanbu family. The Park was very popular with Ishikawa Takuboku and other literary figures. There are around 200 cherry trees in the park, including Yoshino, Edo-higanzakura and Sato-zakura cherry trees, and in spring the stone walls of the castle ruins make a beautiful contrast with the pinkish-red of the cherry blossom. The “Morioka Cherry Blossom Festival” is held every year from late April through into early May, when the cherry blossom is at its best. During the Festival, the cherry trees are illuminated in the evenings, attracting large numbers of visitors to the Park. Shops, toilets and paid parking available.
