Hirosaki Park

A park located in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture considered one of the three best places to view cherry blossoms in Japan. The scenery created by Hirosaki Castle, built in 1611, and the cherry blossoms in spring is truly beautiful, and the park is one of the most renowned destinations for flower viewing in the prefecture. In spring, some 2,600 mainly Yoshino cherry and other cherry tree varieties come into bloom, and each year the park is visited by large numbers of people seeking to enjoy the sight. The Hirosaki Cherry Blossoms Festival is held from late April to early May, and during this time a variety of stalls and stands open up in the area, and the trees are lit up at night to create a magical, fairy tale-like atmosphere. Many of the trees are over 100 years old, and one Yoshino cherry in the outer citadel area is said to be the oldest specimen living in Japan. A fee is required to enter the inner citadel of Hirosaki Castle, Kita no Kuruwa area, and Hirosaki Castle Botanical Garden. Toilets, shops, and nearby parking available.
