Genbikei Gorge
A gorge along the Iwai River, which originates in Mt. Kurikoma and flows down to Ichinoseki City in Iwate Prefecture. Waterfalls, curious rock formations, and huge boulders create dynamic scenery along the two kilometer length of the gorge, and Genbikei Gorge is renowned for its seasonal beauty. In most years, the trees around the gorge begin turning their fall colors from mid-October, ultimately dying the entire area in a carpet of red and gold. The contrast between the colorful foliage and the clear river waters is stunning.
