Hot Spring / Hot Spring Bath
A hot spring area located in the Kawatana neighborhood which was a favorite of such famous figures as Mori Tsunamoto, third lord of the bygone Chofu Domain; poet Santoka Taneda; and Alfred Cortot, one of France’s most celebrated pianists. The waters of the area’s mildly radioactive, sodium, calcium, chloride springs are said to treat such ailments as cuts, burns, chronic skin diseases, weak constitution, and chronic women's diseases. In addition to hot spring hotels and inns, there’s a legend about an ancient blue dragon concerning a public bathhouse in the area. It is a great destination to stop by while exploring the area.Visitors are encouraged to try to the local kawara soba noodles. Created from the area’s traditional kawara roof tile culture, the dish consists of fried green tea soba noodles served on a piping hot roof tile and topped with beef, Welsh onions, kinshi tamago omelet strips, and nori seaweed sheets.
