Hachimantaionsenkyo
A hot spring village which makes use of the piping hot water generated as a byproduct of the Matsukawa Geothermal Power Plant. The village is located in the resort district in the vicinity of Mt. Hachimantai in Towada-Hachimantai National Park. Since the village was established in 1971, it has been a favorite of tourists visiting the Hachimantai area. The waters of the area’s sulfur springs are said to alleviate such ailments as rheumatism, women’s diseases, high blood pressure, skin diseases, and diabetes. The village is also renowned for its year round picturesque scenery, and the fall foliage is particularly impressive. In addition, there are day trip bathhouses in the area with outdoor baths boasting sweeping views of Matsukawa Gorge, a top fall foliage viewing destination. During the Hachimantai Autumn Leaves Festival held in mid-October, visitors can also enjoy a guided walking tour and take in the beauty of Matsukawa Gorge.
