Sasado Onsen
Situated along a lake on the upper reaches of the Yahagi River in Aichi Prefecture, this hot spring district is the oldest in the prefecture and its springs were discovered in the Muromachi period. A part of the Okuyahagi Onsenkyo hot spring village, the district encompasses hot spring inns standing along the Yahagi River. Surrounded by ancient natural beauty, visitors can enjoy hot spring bathing in an elegant and atmospheric environment. The waters of the district's hypotonic alkaline cold mineral springs are said to treat numerous ailments, including nerve pain, muscle soreness, joint pain, frozen shoulders, motor paralysis, joint stiffness, bruises, sprains, digestive disorders, hemorrhoids, sensitivity to cold, and fatigue, in addition to aiding post-illness recovery. Visitors can also find famous, typically Japanese understated sightseeing destinations nearby, such as the small Sasado Ryujin shrine, said to grant worshippers prosperity in business; and the Taishido pavilion, which, when prayed to, is purported to protect one from ear-related disasters.
