A 1,449 meter tall mountain located in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture and one of the Three Mountains of Jomo. At the top of the mountain are Lake Haruna, a caldera lake, and the Haruna-Fuji lava dome central volcanic cone. A ropeway takes visitors to the top in around three minutes, and from here you can get a sweeping view of the Kanto Plain and the mountains of the Joshu area. Many events are also held here and in winter visitors can enjoy the magical site of the Lake Haruna during the Illumination Festa nighttime illumination festival.

Details

Course1
Haruna Fuji: This trail starts from the Haruna Park Visitor's Center and proceeds to the peak of Haruna Fuji via the ropeway Sancho Station. The trail climbs 300 meter and is 1 kilometer one-way. The opening area is wide and gentle, wandering through Kumazasa bamboo grass. The trail is well-trodden so there's no fear of getting lost. There are also lots of ribbons tied up to mark the course. This is a perfect course for beginners, and offers a beautiful view from ropeway Sancho Station of the Kanto Plains, the shapes of Mt. Tsukuba and Mt. Tanigawa, and other snow-capped mountains of the Joetsu border.
Course2
Mt. Kamongatake: This trail starts from the municipal parking area, goes around the Suzuri Iwa branch toward Suzuri Iwa and Mt. Kamongatake. The trail climbs 354 meters, and takes about one hour one-way. The mountain trail starts from the side of Kokuminshukusha Haruna Agatsumaso. After you enjoy the view of Lake Haruna and Haruna Fuji from Suzuri Iwa, you can proceed up the steep mountain trail to Mt. Haruna's highest point, Kamongatake. The views west (toward Mt. Asama) and south (toward Mt. Myogi) from the Kamongatake peak are spectacular! Though the endless bamboo grass hides your feet, there's no obstacles to trip you up. From Suzuri Iwa you can take a picture of Mt. Haruna upside down, too.
