Old battlefield of Idenosawa

Other Historic Site/Building
The place where the Battle of Idenosawa took place in 1335. It is reported that Ashikaga Tadayoshi (Takauji's younger brother) intercepted the troops of Hojo Tokiyuki who were moving south from Shinshu to reestablish the Kamakura Shogunate. At present, Sugawara Shrine is there, which honors Sugawara Michizane. Idenosawa was said to be a key point on the road leading from northern Kanto to Kamakura, and it is speculated that its topography and landforms created a natural fortress.
