Yokohama Yamate Museum of Tennis

Memorial Hall
This museum is located in the center of Yamashita Park a 12-minute walk from Ishikawacho Station and 15 minutes from Motomachi-Chukagai Station. The park is also located next to the Yamatecho bus stop and the Mugitacho bus stop. In 1876, tennis was introduced to Yokohama and it is believed that the first tennis match ever in Japan was held here after a tennis court was built in the park. Accordingly, it is seen as the birthplace of tennis in Japan, and inside the museum visitors can see 100-year-old tennis rackets as well as exhibits which reveal the changes in rackets and tennis wear throughout the years.
