Seto Shrine

Shrine
This Shinto shrine can be reached by leaving from the east exit of Kanazawa-Hakkei Station and heading a short distance northeast from The Kanazawa-hakkei-ekimae Intersection. The shrine is a two-minute walk from the station. During the Edo period, there was a channel called the Seto which connected Hirakata Bay and an inlet which once existed. Its powerful current was said to wash away sin and impurity; viewed as a sacred place, this shrine was built to house its gods. It is believed the actual shrine was built during the Kamakura period during the time of Minamoto no Yoritomo. The shrine is dedicated to Oyamatsumi-no-Mikoto, god of traffic safety, travel safety, and prosperous business. The shrine possesses Noh masks which have been designated National Important Cultural Properties. The shrine holds a Tenno Festival in mid-July.
