Murozumi Mitarai Park

A park on Mitarai Bay in Murozumi, which prospered as an important hub for maritime traffic in previous times. It has three monuments and a former lighthouse called the Torodo that was constructed in 1702 and restored in 1991. It is the oldest lighthouse in the prefecture and the 24th oldest in Japan. Two monuments are engraved with the verses of the native poets Hideo Isonaga and Tadao Maruoka, and one features the haiku of the wandering poet Santoka Taneda. Santoka's monument is located at the entrance of the local museum parking lot; another is outside the park at the first temple of Murozumi Zobiga Cape's 88 Sacred Sites.
