Toyota-cho, Shimonoseki City, is known as a hot spot for fireflies with areas like the Genjibotaru firefly habitat at the Koya River; it's a national Natural Monument. In June tens of thousands of fireflies from nine species sparkle throughout the town when they operate a Firefly Boat and hold events such as the Toyota Firefly Festival.
