Kinshoji Temple

An ancient temple of the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism. According to temple tradition, it was founded by Emperor Go-Nijo in 1302. A monument with a hair from the Edo-period joruri and kabuki playwright Chikamatsu Monzaemon is on the grounds beside the main hall. There is also a tradition that he studied there as a child.

旧唐津藩主であった小笠原家の菩提寺で、結構大きな敷地を誇ります。庭園も複数あります。浄瑠璃作家として有名な近松門左衛門ゆかりの寺院らしく、墓所もありました。中心エリアからは少しは歩きますが、十分見る価値があると思います。

唐津駅から徒歩10分。1302年創建の臨済宗南禅寺派の寺院。本尊は釈迦牟尼仏。山門は豊臣秀吉が唐津に築城した名護屋城の門を移築したもの。本堂は木造瓦葺きでその前にある庭園はきれいに整備されている。境内奥にも「舞鶴園」と名付けられた庭園があるが本堂脇から覗き見ることしかできず、その姿はよく分からなかった。浄瑠璃作者の近松門左衛門は得度した当寺からその名を付けたという説がある。境内には近松門左衛門...
